Now Listening: Iván "Melón" Lewis Piano Trio - Cuban Classics
Absolutely beautiful live performance of some of the most iconic pieces of Cuban music. My exposure comes from Buena Vista Social Club (obviously) and from Diego El Cigala and Bebo Valdés' "Lágrimas Negras" Cuban-Flamenco fusion album. The jazz trio setup makes it even more my jam, it's interesting to listen to this style without a brass section, it makes the piano take over the melody completely and lets the bass shine a lot more (as good as Lewis is on the piano, the bassist is the absolute MVP for me here).
